What is The Meals Ministry?

Through a team of volunteers we provide meals to our church family. This ministry supports the body by living out the word of God to glorify Him through serving one another. It is also a great way to meet people in our church. The mission of the Meals Ministry is to provide prepared meals to those in the Old Fort Church family who need support during an illness, surgery, new baby or special circumstance. The vision is to see the body of Christ loving each other and their neighbors with hospitality in such a way that Jesus Christ is made known and glorified. The goal is to reach out and support those in our church family who are not well connected and our neighbors in the community who need God’s love in action during a challenging time.

How Does It Work?

We will be made aware of a need, either through a direct request for help by email, phone, or through referral by someone within the church. Volunteers are then contacted through email or phone call and asked to provide a meal, either home cooked or purchased, and deliver it to the recipient.

Who Do We Serve?

We serve families and individuals in times of need. … after the birth of a baby… after surgery or hospitalization… during times of crisis.

How Do We Serve?

We provide meals for two weeks, every other night. Sometimes we will provide more, sometimes less, it depends on the needs of the family. All coordination is started by email (or phone call) and a web-based scheduling tool called Meal Train, used to sign up for meals. An email will be sent with the details of the need, including a link to the online scheduling tool. If you do not have internet or access, that’s ok. We will personally call you and can add your date and meal to Meal Train for you. All meals should be delivered in disposable containers to reduce the impact of washing and returning dishes for the family in need.

What Are The Meal Guidelines?

We provide a complete meal and deliver it to the recipient. The meal can be store purchased, homemade, frozen or just about anything! The meal does not have to be fancy or gourmet. We attempt to accommodate allergies and food preferences. We strive to work out a schedule that benefits the recipient the most while working with the schedule of the volunteers.

How Can I Help?

The meals ministry is an excellent way to serve others, share Jesus, and make a difference in someone’s life. The purpose is to help someone in need by providing a ready-made meal. In times of need, it is an incredible blessing to see a friendly face and receive a meal.

What is The Shut-ins Ministry?

Through a team of volunteers we provide fellowship to those in the Old Fort Church family who are home-bound, in an assisted living facility, or nursing home. This, again, is a great way to meet people in our church. Our vision is to see the body of Christ loving each other and their neighbors with hospitality in such a way that Jesus Christ is made known and glorified. Our goal is to reach out and support those in our church family who are not well connected and our neighbors in the community who need God’s love in action during a time of loneliness.

How Does It Work?

We will be made aware of a need, either through a direct request for help by email, phone, or through referral by someone within the church. Visitation rotations will be set up with assigned volunteers to visit on a bi-weekly or at least monthly visit.

Many hands make light work: we would love to call on each volunteer for meals and/or visits just a few months out of the year. In order to do this, we need a large pool of volunteers. We pray that God will build up a large group of volunteers for this ministry. Would you help to share God’s love through preparing and delivering meals or visiting our shut-ins for OFC Care Team?

How You Can Volunteer:

1. Prepare and deliver a meal
2. Buy a bag of groceries for a meal and deliver
3. Purchase a restaurant gift card for take-out or delivery
4. Make a Freezer Meal
5. Visit weekly, bi-weekly or monthly
6. Pray for our shut-ins often
7. Find a hobby or common interest to interact with during your visit
8. Offer to take them for a car ride, to church, or somewhere they need
to go to get them out, if able.
